The Haunted Mansion Parlor on The Disney Treasure – Step into the Best Disney Cruise Line Venue Yet!

One of our favorite venues, and where we spent as much time as possible, on the Disney Treasure is the Haunted Mansion Parlor, an all-new bar inspired by the iconic Disney Parks attraction, The Haunted Mansion. Guests are transported into the world of the iconic attraction, where happy haunts, new and old, come out to socialize. We were blown away by the attention to detail and care that went into the new lounge. Learn why we think it is a home run below.

1 – The Haunted Mansion Parlor on the Disney Treasure

The Disney Treasure, Disney Cruise Line’s sixth ship, has a theme of adventure that calls upon the bold and heartwarming stories of beloved Disney characters. It also has a few spaces that honor Disney Parks attractions, including the Haunted Mansion Parlor. The venue follows the nostalgic art style of the original 1969 Disney Parks classic, and true to the original attraction, the Haunted Mansion Parlor blends humor with Disney’s own distinct brand of spooky storytelling.

2 – Inspired Entry Hallway

Your visit begins (and ends) in a perfectly designed hallway that sets the stage for your visit to the parlor. Familiar artwork lines the walls, and you’ll find some of the same spirits that you’ll see on the attraction. There is a small bookshelf behind a glass door with a Mariner figurine, a Fiancée figurine, and some potions and small books. On your way out, be sure to walk slowly and past the mirror, and you’ll be greeted by a familiar spirit bidding you farewell. The door leading to the parlor features an ornate knocker and a serpent door handle. Don’t rush to enter the parlor because these details are worth checking out!

3 – The Parlor – A Nautical Twist

Each Haunted Mansion attraction around the world has its own external identity, so it’s not surprising that the design of the parlor on a Disney Cruise Line ship has a nautical twist. The design of the parlor is reminiscent of a first-class drawing room from the classic cruise liners of the golden age. The space is the private parlor of a jovial captain who has entered the ghostly realm, and his soul lingers on in the parlor. The parlor feels as if you’ve stepped into the attraction, but at the same time, you’ll see the nautical influences that fit perfectly together. The story follows a jovial captain and his fiancé and his untimely demise in the parlor.

The lounge includes tributes to the Disney Parks attractions, from the iconic purple wallpaper framed by wooden finishes to a mantel clock atop an inviting fireplace to a distinctive purple armchair tucked in the corner. A custom musical arrangement inspired by the attraction’s original score arranged and adapted by composer Shruti Kumar and Walt Disney Imagineering sets the stage for an ever-escalating anthology of illusions that immerses guests into the mysterious lore of the Haunted Mansion.

4 – An Erie Art Collection

You’ll want to spend time looking closely at the portrait gallery, showcasing the Disney Treasure’s ghostly residents. The works are similar to the paintings inside the attraction and mimic the style used by Disney Imagineers in 1969. New technologies allowed Disney to use the portraits to entertain guests in new ways.

Portraits include:

  • The captain’s portrait has a place of honor in the parlor along the back wall next to the fireplace.
  • A unique “Ghost Rider” portrait features a ghost riding a large seahorse while waving a trident rather than a horse and sword.
  • The captain’s bride-to-be is inspired by Marc Davis’ iconic “cat lady” concept, which was also featured in the original attraction. Watch closely as the portrait flickers to reveal her true form.
  • There is a curious portrait of a pirate who is missing a head. He is standing atop of gold coins and is “drinking’ red wine while holding a bucket that appears to be filled with his missing head since you can see an eye out of the bucket.
  • The Mariner is a portrait created by famed Disney animator Marc Davis, whose portrait first occupied the halls of the original Haunted Mansion attraction and later made its way to the attractions at Walt Disney World Resort and Tokyo Disney Resort. The Mariner’s story is taken further on the Disney Treasure.
  • Finally, a portrait that is similar to Marc Davis’ “Medusa Lady” hangs on the wall; however, in this version, she has gills and serpentine eels for hair.

5 – Tributes to a Disney Legend

If you look to the left of the fireplace, you’ll spot a statue of celebrated Disney Imagineer Rolly Crump. Crump played a role in designing the original Haunted Mansion at Disneyland, which includes several tributes to his idea for a “Museum of the Weird,” including a melting face that resembles the “Candle Man,” his very first idea for the museum.

Disney shares more on the tribute:

Part of Rolly’s larger creative concept for a “Museum of the Weird” in the Haunted Mansion, his original vision included a character that appeared to be melting like a candle. It was only fitting for the design for Rolly’s memorial bust to stem from his own ideas, which led to the sculpted drips on the side of his face and a memorial plaque that reads, “BROTHER ROLAND- FOREVER REVERED FOR EMBRACING THE WEIRD.” Rolly Crump’s statue ha[s] a place of honor within the Haunted Mansion Parlor.

Imagineers also brought to life one of the sketches of Rolly Crump’s concepts for a mysterious aquarium with ghostly fish. The modern “Aquarium with Ghost Fish” in the Haunted Mansion Parlor is one piece you’ll want to study to enjoy the ghost fish who live there. Fun tip: be sure to look for the five small tombstones for the fish who have passed away. This is a tribute to the pet cemetery at the attraction.

6 – Other Fascinating Props

Be sure to stare into the mirror behind the bar because you may see familiar ghosts wanting to follow you home. Other fun details include prop shelves of items that will pop to life, but only during certain times. For example, the music sheets on a shelf pop to life, but only when the ghosts are singing. Finally, there is a secret menu on the digital menu tablet that can be accessed by turning the menu vertically.

7 – Enjoy the Whole Experience

You’ll want to give yourself plenty of time to soak in all of the details. Visiting the Haunted Mansion Parlor is very different from a typical visit to a lounge. This is very much a theatrical and musical experience with so many different show effects, from lightning to music, sounds, and the story.

The full show is about thirty minutes before it begins to loop around to the beginning, and depending on where you sit, you’ll have a different experience because of what you’ll see and hear in each spot. The Disney Treasure has seven-night sailings, so guests have many opportunities to return and get a new experience each time.

However, Danny Handke with Walt Disney Imagineering shared with us that while it repeats every thirty minutes, there are “differences if you stick around. We have built chapters with different activities happening.” There are also breaks between the chapters when the lights get a bit brighter and things quiet down so you can enjoy that conversation with whoever you are with.

8 – Drinks to Die For

The lounge features several exclusive drinks that guests will die for. The Ghoulish Delight is an ube-flavored treat that everyone can enjoy. With hints of sweetness and nuttiness, the drink incorporates decadent ube fudge, oat milk, and tapioca pearls in a purple concoction garnished with a gummy eyeball and ube glitter.

This Chilling Challenge is a spooky twist on a classic margarita, presented to guests amidst a swirl of flavored smoke, and is another signature drink at the Haunted Mansion Parlor. Topped with a lemon salt foam, this tequila-based cocktail will contain a secret message, only to be revealed by black light. There are several different messages that guests will see.

Disney Cruise Line also developed their own line of zero-proof sodas in unique flavors. They wanted to recreate the “potion effect” of Madame Leota’s potions.

Flavors include:

    • Grim Grinning Grape (Blue Grape)
    • Screaming Soda (Cream Soda)
    • Sour Shivers Lemonade (Lemonade)
    • Creepy Crawly Cola (Cola)

There are also a variety of wines, beers, and other cocktails to choose from.

9 – Merchandise

The Parlor also has an exclusive array of haunted homewares and spooky souvenirs available for purchase at Treasure Untold:

  • The Haunted Mansion Parlor Music Box is a keepsake inspired by the eerie music box that plays a melodic soundtrack inside the Haunted Mansion Parlor. As the rumors go, this mysterious box belonged to the captain’s bride-to-be and only opens in the presence of malevolent spirits.
  • Honoring the memorable grandfather clock seen in the original Disney Parks attraction, the Haunted Parlor Mantle Clock looms over the fireplace inside the venue, instigating mysterious happenings when it strikes 13. As a part of the new merchandise collection, Disney Cruise Line guests can bring home their very own mantle clock, just like the one from the parlor.
  • Featuring the same octopus design from the bar’s entrance onboard the Disney Treasure, the Haunted Mansion Parlor Sculpted Mug depicts an aura of intrigue and is accented with a variety of sea life, including a hidden Mickey Mouse-shaped barnacle.
  • The Haunted Mansion Parlor Mirror allows guests to take home a piece of the magic, offering a ghoulish surprise to unsuspecting users when the hitchhiking ghosts mysteriously appear.

10 – Overall Thoughts

We really enjoyed our time in the Haunted Mansion Parlor on the Disney Treasure. The Imagineers did such an amazing job bringing to life the attraction while adding a nautical twist. Spending time in the parlor feels like you are in the attraction, and there is so much to take in; visiting once isn’t enough. Thankfully, on a seven-night voyage, you’ll have plenty of opportunity to do just that. We love this space and think it just might be Disney Cruise Line’s best yet!
