NEWS: Disney Unveils New Voices of Liberty Costumes

The Voices of Liberty is one of our favorite Disney Entertainment offerings and we love catching them perform at The American Adventure in EPCOT. Disney has announced they have new costumes! Learn more below.

Here are all the details from Disney Cast Member Kaley McCarthy:

The EPCOT International Festival of the Arts is a time to celebrate visual, performing, and culinary arts. This year, at the start of the festival, we will get to see the art of costume design with the debut of new Voices of Liberty costumes!

This new look for the beloved a cappella group will be featured year-round–except during the holidays, of course–and the costumes are the product of talent, time and careful design. To get a closer look at the artistry and effort behind these creations, I sat down with the talented costume design and production team at Disney Live Entertainment responsible for these new looks.

Let’s take a peek into their creative process and what it takes to bring these costumes to life!

Designing for such an iconic ensemble is no small feat and our team was up for the challenge! “We wanted to create a cohesive look that celebrated the grandness of the rotunda in which they perform and the impact of their musical presentation through incorporating a visual aesthetic of music itself,” explained Josh, Costume Designer with Disney Live Entertainment. When it came to the color palette, he found inspiration from a vintage American flag. This allowed him to create unique looks for each performer while still coordinating with the whole group, illustrating the way in which individual voices come together as one.

One of the most important aspects of costume design is ensuring the garments are visually stunning yet functional for the performers who will wear them daily while singing. The design features a streamlined, architectural energy, so it was essential to select fabrics that could be tailored well while providing the crisp construction needed. Aubry, the Costumer for this project, sourced a sustainable fabric made from 50% or more recycled materials. “The fabric could also be custom dyed to match the exact colors chosen by our designer, allowing us to achieve the intended vision as closely as possible.”

Collaboration is key in a project like this – not just within the Costuming team, but also in partnership with the Voices of Liberty cast.  “When we fit our performers for costumes, we make sure they demonstrate movements they might need to make during the show, which can vary person to person,” Aubry explained. “For example, our vocal captains use a wide range of arm movement while conducting, so comfort and mobility in the back and shoulders is of extra importance.”

When asked about the final product, our Costuming team couldn’t contain their excitement. For them, the most memorable part of the process is how it brought everyone together. A highlight for both Josh and Aubry was when the Voices of Liberty visited the costume shop to perform a special thank you for the entire Creative Costuming team who worked on the project, including stitchers, drapers, cutters, and more, all while wearing the new costumes they worked so hard to create.

The new Voices of Liberty costumes are more than just clothes; they are an example of the artistry of costuming. From the thoughtful design choices to the detailed production processes, the Creative Costuming team created something that both the performers and our guests will enjoy and appreciate for years to come.

RELATED ARTICLE: 5 Reasons We Love the American Adventure Pavilion at Disney’s Epcot

by Matt and Kim

The World Showcase at Epcot is spectacular and one of our favorite parts of Disney World! As we walk through country after country and partake in the endless supply of food, drinks, shops, and cultural settings, we find ourselves drawn to one pavilion specifically – the American Adventure Pavilion. Here are five reasons why we love the American Adventure Pavilion at Disney’s Epcot!

1 – Patriotic and Proud

The spirit of America comes to life at the American Adventure Pavilion located in the middle of the World Showcase! We are always in awe of the grand and majestic building that holds the American Adventure show, Regal Eagle Smokehouse, and more. The red, white, and blue flags, the stately columns, the fountain, the clock tower, the golden eagle, and all the special scenery exudes patriotism! Maybe it’s just us, but we feel like the sights and sounds at the American Adventure Pavilion provide us with an excellent reminder of how proud we should be to be standing on American soil.

2 – America’s Past in the Present

In the Rotunda of the American Adventure Pavilion, you will hopefully have the opportunity to catch the Voices of Liberty performing. This a cappella group sings patriotic music, which echoes beautifully when inside the American Adventure building underneath the dome. Their attire and their song choices provide a sweet reminder of America’s past. Step up your patriotism a notch and visit the theater for the 30-minute American Adventure film, which typically follows the Voices of Liberty performance. Outside of the building, fun musical series take place in the American Gardens Theater and Gallery, such as Garden Rocks Concert Series and the Eat to the Beat Concert Series. Thankfully, with all of these other performances offered, it’s easy to find something entertaining and worth the time!

3 –  American Cuisine

Get ready to eat some delicious all-American-style food! If you are looking for a simple and tasty snack, you’ll want to stop by the Fife and Drum Tavern, a snack stand. Fife and Drum offers turkey legs, popcorn, soft-serve ice cream, and slushies. Don’t forget the all-American funnel cake at the Funnel Cake cart. Our mouths are watering just thinking about it! Finally, be sure to check out the newest addition to the Epcot counter service lineup, Regal Eagle Smokehouse. When it comes to food, nothing is more American than barbecue, and this new restaurant is a HUGE upgrade over Liberty Inn. Check out our full review by clicking here.

4 – Art of Disney!

Since 2019, Art of Disney has made its home in the American Pavilion. You can now shop for paintings, limited-edition prints, cels, figurines, and the Disney Classic Collection. Be sure to check it out!

5 – Kidcot!

A fun spot in the American Adventure Pavilion is the Kidcot Spot, located at the exit of the Heritage Manor Gift Shop (near the restrooms). Let your children (or adults!) enjoy a moment to sit down and color a free ziplock souvenir that will allow them to collect stickers from each of the 11 countries around the World Showcase.

With so much to look at, taste, and experience, we find it easy to love all the American Adventure Pavilion has to offer. We’d love to hear about your favorite experiences at the American Pavilion!
