Best Disney Ship Ever? 10 Reasons Why the Disney Treasure is the Best Disney Cruise Line Ship Yet
Disney Cruise Line’s fleet is expanding, and its most recent addition, the Disney Treasure, tops them all. While the ship will embark on its maiden voyage on December 21, 2024, we recently enjoyed a special preview cruise where we had a chance to explore the ship and check out the new and exclusive offerings. We found a nearly perfect Disney Cruise Line ship and were blown away. Learn more about this amazing ship and why we think it’s the best below.
10 – Theme of Adventure
The Disney Treasure is the sister ship to the Disney Wish, which launched in 2022, which means the Wish and Treasure share largely the same layout. Guests who’ve sailed on the Wish will find familiar spaces. While the two ships share a handful of the same venues, they are distinct and have their own feel or personality. The Wish is all about fantasy, and the Treasure is all about adventure, in honor of Walt Disney’s legendary passion for travel and exploration. On board, guests are immersed in spaces that have the theme of adventure and are inspired by memorable Disney stories like “Aladdin,” “Coco,” and “Zootopia.” With that setting, the ship has a distinct feeling from the other Disney ships, which we really enjoyed.
9 – Disney Parks Inspired Spaces
If you’re a Disney Parks fan, you’ll love the Disney Treasure. For the first time, the nostalgia and lore from beloved theme park attractions come to Disney Cruise Line with a unique lineup of Disney Parks-inspired venues aboard the Disney Treasure. Disney Parks’ iconic Jungle Cruise Attraction comes to life at the Skipper Society (#6). Periscope Pub (#5) becomes Disney Cruise Line’s first venue inspired by the spellbinding adventure of Walt Disney’s 1954 film, “20,000 Leagues Under the Sea,” and the celebrated Disney Parks attraction that was open at Walt Disney World from 1971 to 1994. Embracing the adventures of the future, the Tomorrow Tower Suite captures the same forward-thinking mindset that inspired the Walt Disney World Resort theme park, EPCOT, with an energetic design. And while Plaza de Coco celebrates the film “Coco,” you can’t help but feel like you’ve stepped inside the Mexico pavilion at EPCOT. Finally, the Haunted Mansion Parlor (#2) is an all-new bar inspired by the iconic Disney Parks attraction, The Haunted Mansion. Foolish mortals sip spirited craft cocktails among 999 happy haunts inside this new venue. All of these familiar spaces make the guests feel right at home on the Disney Treasure.
8 – New AquaMouse Storyline
On the Disney Wish, Disney Cruise Line debuted the AquaMouse, the first Disney attraction at sea; complete with show scenes, lighting special effects, and “splashtacular” surprises, this first-of-its-kind water ride sends guests on a fun family adventure through 760 feet of winding tubes suspended high above the upper decks. Onboard the Disney Treasure, an all-new storyline, AquaMouse: Curse of the Golden Egg, plunges guests into the world of Mickey Mouse animated shorts. The new story follows Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse on a zany misadventure into an ancient temple. Guests will journey with the pair as they embark on a tour of mysterious ruins for a glimpse of the legendary treasure within and encounter a series of hilarious mishaps and booby traps that take the trek in unexpected directions. During the ride, powerful jets will propel two-person ride vehicles through 760 feet of winding tubes, offering breathtaking views of the ocean and the ship below.
7 – Worlds of Marvel
Worlds of Marvel, Disney Cruise Line’s Marvel-themed dining experience that debuted on the Disney Wish, hosts Disney Treasure guests for two distinct nights, including a brand-new offering that will showcase the lively duo Rocket and Groot from the blockbuster “Guardians of the Galaxy” films. “Marvel Celebration of Heroes: Groot Remix” begins as diners partake in a celebration honoring the many Super Heroes who keep the world safe. The story unfolds onscreen when Groot takes over the proceedings and brings the party to the next level like only he can. Throughout the evening, guests eat to the beat of an “awesome mix” of hit songs from decades past and have the chance to test their knowledge of the Marvel universe with activities for the whole family. We enjoyed this version of Worlds of Marvel. The music was fantastic, and the dinner was more relaxed, with less going on during the meal. We also enjoyed answering the trivia!
6 – Skipper Society
As mentioned above, the Skipper Society is one of the Disney Parks-inspired venues on the ship. The lounge, near the Grand Hall, brings to life the iconic Jungle Cruise attraction to sea for the first time. You’ll feel right at home as you step into the lounge that features natural colors, camp-style furnishings, and plenty of references to the famous attraction throughout the space, from a whimsical monkey-shaped chandelier to postcards and luggage tags brought back from travels abroad. Guests sit under a canopy of untamed jungle foliage and can enjoy themed cocktails, light snacks, and live entertainment.
5 – Periscope Pub
Another Disney Parks-inspired venue is the Periscope Pub, Disney Cruise Line’s first venue, inspired by the spellbinding adventure of Walt Disney’s 1954 film, “20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.” The design of the submarine-style interiors will call upon 19th-century steampunk influences with polished metals and industrial touches throughout. A mysterious window into the mythical depths of the uncharted oceans that spans the entire ceiling will allow guests to feel like Captain Nemo on the Nautilus. At the same time, a decorative statement rug in the center of the space will be embroidered with a bold print to honor Captain Nemo’s fabled nemesis, the giant squid. This casual venue will be the ideal onboard locale for guests to unwind and watch live sports, news, and major broadcast events while ordering from a menu of craft brews and light bites.
4 – The Grand Hall
The Grand Hall is the heart of a Disney Cruise Line ship, and every space is unique. On the Disney Treasure, the Grand Hall embodies the ship’s theme of adventure, with statues and décor that call on the gilded palace and wonder of Agrabah from Walt Disney Animation Studios’ classic tale, “Aladdin.” The space is beautiful, and we enjoyed sitting for a while and enjoying our surroundings. The Grand Hall serves as the ship’s most prominent gathering space and offers its own dedicated entertainment moments and surprises.
3 – Plaza de Coco
Disney and Pixar film “Coco” fans will absolutely love the first Coco-themed theatrical dining experience, Plaza de Coco. This theater-in-the-round entertainment venue features dining tables surrounding a central stage, with performances and show effects that spread throughout the room. As mentioned earlier, the space feels like you’ve stepped inside the Mexico pavilion at EPCOT, as it’s perfectly themed and decorated. During the experience, Miguel and his familia take guests on a colorful, music-filled journey that celebrates treasured family memories and togetherness with a festive dinner menu that offers a modern twist on traditional Mexican fare. The food was delicious, and overall, it was the best food of the main dining experiences that we enjoyed during our cruise. The music and dancing were fantastic, and we really enjoyed this dining experience.
2 – The Haunted Mansion Parlor
Hands down, the best space on the Disney Treasure is the new Haunted Mansion Parlor, an all-new bar inspired by the iconic Disney Parks attraction, The Haunted Mansion. We spent hours trying to take it all in this new space, and that still wasn’t enough time! The one-of-a-kind experience invites guests to partake in the next chapter of the Haunted Mansion, focused on the story of a jovial captain who entered the ghostly realm after a disastrous dinner with his beloved fiancé. You’ll hear a new custom musical arrangement inspired by the attraction’s original score that sets the stage for an ever-escalating anthology of illusions that immerses guests into the mysterious lore of the Haunted Mansion. The venue follows the nostalgic art style of the original 1969 Disney Parks classic, and true to the original attraction, the Haunted Mansion Parlor blends humor with Disney’s distinct brand of spooky storytelling. The entire show is about 45 minutes, and there is so much to take in. Legendary characters from Haunted Mansion attractions at Disney Parks around the world and new seafaring arrivals come out to socialize in mysterious ways throughout the experience. This venue is a total home run for Disney Cruise Line. The entire immersive experience is perfect, and people are going to love this space!
1 – “Disney The Tale of Moana”
While Haunted Mansion Parlor is the best space on the ship, more than anything else on the ship, the best thing about the Disney Treasure is the brand-new original Broadway-style production, “Disney The Tale of Moana.” Debuting exclusively at the Walt Disney Theatre onboard the Disney Treasure, “Disney The Tale of Moana” brings the adventurous journey of Moana, inspired by the Walt Disney Animation Studios film, to center stage for the first time. The show follows Moana as she embarks on a harrowing quest to save her island after the ocean chooses her to restore the heart of Te Fiti. Fans of the original film will recognize many beloved characters like Gramma Tala, Maui, and Tamatoa when they appear on stage, as well as songs from the film’s iconic soundtrack.
This show absolutely blew us away with its amazing cast (Moana is perfect), powerful choreography, and adapted storyline that’s perfect for a stage show. The puppetry is outstanding. The massive, fiery Te Kā is a towering 13 feet tall. In one of the most impressive moments during the show, when Moana meets Te Kā and restores the heart of Te Fiti, the giant Te Kā puppet sheds its fiery shell and becomes the gentle island goddess Te Fiti herself. The scene was unbelievable!
After seeing the second show of the night, we immediately regretted not skipping dinner at 5:45 pm to watch both shows. That’s how good it was. This show alone is well worth the cruise fare. It was that good, and everyone we talked to agreed that “Disney The Tale of Moana” is by far the best stage production ever created for Disney Cruise Line, which is saying something because we’ve loved every show we’ve seen, and the other shows are fantastic.
