New DVC Cabins at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort – What You Need to Know
Disney Vacation Club celebrated opening the first phase of new cabins at The Cabins at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort – A Disney Vacation Club Resort. Nestled in the woodlands of Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground, the cabins are a relaxing retreat where guests of all ages can enjoy many of the comforts of home blended with the joys of staying in the great outdoors. Disney Vacation Club invited us to come out to Fort Wilderness to tour the new cabins and enjoy some of the great outdoor recreation the resort has to offer. Learn more about the new cabins and Fort Wilderness below!
1 – A New Disney Vacation Club Property
Disney announced plans in 2023 for a new Disney Vacation Club resort at Walt Disney World. The plans called for the cabins at Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground to become the new DVC resort. The cabins will open up in phases throughout the year and will consist of 350 new cabins, eventually replacing all of the current cabins on the property. The cabins are part of a collection of improvement projects underway at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground to enhance the overall guest experience. The Cabins at Disney’s Fort Wilderness is the seventieth DVC property.
We spoke with a Disney Vacation Club spokesman, who shared that since Disney Vacation Club is all about bringing guests back to Walt Disney World year after year and offering more spacious accommodations, converting the old cabins into a new DVC resort was a great way to offer members a place where they can enjoy the comforts of home in the great outdoors and bring the benefits of Disney Vacation Club to Fort Wilderness.
2 – One Bedroom Cabins
The cabins are the perfect size for a larger family and comfortably accommodate up to six guests. They include a main bedroom, bathroom, fully equipped kitchen, living area, dining area, and outdoor patio.
The spacious living room features sofa seating that can be easily pulled down to reveal a queen-size bed for added sleeping space.
Each cabin comes with its own refrigerator, dishwasher, stove and microwave oven, and other kitchen necessities so family can prepare their own meals.
The main bedroom includes a large queen-size bed, a wall-mounted television, and two bunk beds adorned with whimsical artwork featuring Chip and Dale.
The bathroom includes a large shower, toilet, sink, storage, and another sink in the hallway.
The spacious deck and grill also allow guests to enjoy their time outdoors comfortably.
Just-like-home comforts make each stay as one-of-a-kind as it gets. Dog-friendly cabins are also available for those looking to bring along their furry friend.
3 – Distinctly Disney Design that Celebrates Fort Wilderness
Walt Disney Imagineering worked to design the new cabins and drew inspiration from the outdoors while infusing a touch of Disney whimsy to create unique accommodations dedicated to preserving the resort’s heritage. One of the biggest differences from the previous cabins is how open and light the cabins are inside. Floor-to-ceiling windows bring the beauty of the outdoors and plenty of light into each cabin, though shades have been installed so guests can close them when desired. The vaulted ceilings really open the cabins, and they feel so much larger than the previous cabins.
Disney Imagineers have honored Fort Wilderness’s history throughout the cabins with design features that celebrate the resort’s early days and its four classic traditions: camping, canoeing, archery, and fishing. In the new original artwork, you’ll also find familiar nods to Mickey Mouse, Pluto, Donald Duck, and the resort’s favorites, Chip and Dale.
There are some historical touches that are a bit more subtle. Guests will find artwork featuring Chip and Dale on the bunkbeds in the main bedroom. On the top bunk, guests will notice Dale sleeping on a pile of acorns they have been gathering to help them keep track of the coming of winter. The date highlighted on the calendar is November 19, which was the opening day of Fort Wilderness back in 1971.
Finally, be sure to check out the collage in the main bedroom, where you’ll find postcard artwork in the bedroom featuring River Country and Fort Wilderness activities.
4 – Great Location
The resort’s close location to Magic Kingdom Park make is a desirable location. Guests can enjoy a short boat ride to the park and other Magic Kingdom Resorts. It’s also a short bus ride to Disney Springs and EPCOT.
5 – Fantastic Outdoor Recreation Options
Disney Vacation Club members and guests staying at The Cabins at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort can enjoy plenty of recreation options. Many free activities include enjoying the pools, scavenger hunts and a Nature Guide, tours of Tri-Circle-D Ranch, Chip ‘n’ Dale’s Campfire Sing-along, and enjoying Magic Kingdom fireworks from the beach.
Many other activities, including equestrian trails, fishing, archery, and canoe and bike rentals, are also available to book for an extra fee. During our time at Fort Wilderness, we enjoyed a shortened fishing excursion, a tour of Tri-Circle-D Ranch, and a golf cart rental. We’ll be sharing an article soon about those experiences.
Longtime readers may know that we absolutely love Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground. We have stayed there over twenty times and have enjoyed the resort’s recreation many times throughout the years. It’s a fantastic resort for a staycation because you’ll want to spend a lot of time there!
