Sneak Peek: Take a Look Inside the Upcoming Disney Vacation Club Cabins at Fort Wilderness
Last year, Walt Disney World Resort and Disney Vacation Club announced proposed plans to bring refreshed cabin hideaways to Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground, offering guests a private retreat in the midst of nature with many of the comforts of home. I was invited to get a sneak peek inside the new cabins and loved what we saw! Learn more below.

1 – Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground
I love Fort Wilderness! Our family and extended family have enjoyed many staycations there, either camping or enjoying the cabins. Located right in the heart of Walt Disney World magic and a boat ride away from the Magic Kingdom Park, guests have easy access to the theme parks. They can enjoy the resort’s cherished amenities, including horseback riding at the recently updated Tri-Circle-D Ranch, fishing, walking trails, pools, playgrounds for the little ones, Chip ’n’ Dale’s Campfire Sing-A-Long and rootin’ tootin’ dining and entertainment at Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue. I always recommend that guests visit Fort Wilderness, even if they are not staying there, because there is so much to enjoy.
2 – The Cabins at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort – A Disney Vacation Club Resort
Fort Wilderness’s cabin accommodations will soon become the 17th Disney Vacation Club resort. The first refreshed cabins at The Cabins at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort—A Disney Vacation Club Resort are set to open in July 2024. The cabins will be replaced over the course of a year, with all of the cabins being replaced by mid-2025.
“For more than 50 years, Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground has offered guests the opportunity to explore nature with their loved ones while staying in the heart of Walt Disney World Resort,” said Bill Diercksen, senior vice president and general manager of Disney Vacation Club. “We’re excited to continue to build upon the resort’s rich legacy and elevate the cabin experience for our Members and all guests to enjoy for years to come.”
Nestled across 750 acres of scenic woodlands, proposed plans call for more than 350 new cabins to replace the existing ones at the resort. The current cabins have delighted guests for many years and are ready for a refresh. Campsite accommodations will also continue to be available for guests.
The planned cabins are part of a collection of improvement projects underway at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground that are designed to enhance the guest experience. Examples include proposed pool and walking trail enhancements as well as expanded dining experiences at Trail’s End Restaurant and Crockett’s Tavern.
As with all Disney Vacation Club resorts, the proposed cabins will remain open for reservations to all guests, including those who are not Disney Vacation Club Members, based on availability.
3 – Design Concept
Design concepts offer a fresh take on the current cabin experience and are inspired by the resort’s idyllic setting while also paying homage to the resort’s unique culture and heritage through the magic of Disney storytelling. Additionally, the proposed cabins will be built with an eye toward the environment, utilizing the footprint of the existing cabins and taking advantage of more energy-efficient features.
Also important to note is that Cast Members shared that the new cabins will be raised above the flood plane of the resort. Unfortunately, the resort does experience flooding, particularly if a hurricane impacts the area.
4 – A Look Inside
Each stand-alone cabin offers spacious accommodations, sleeping up to six adults, and features a bedroom, bathroom, living room, full kitchen, and private patio. A select number of cabins are also expected to be dog-friendly.

5 – My Thoughts on the Upcoming Cabins
Our family has special memories of staying at the cabins for special occasions. So when Disney announced the cabins would be updated and become a Disney Vacation Club resort, I admit, I was nervous. After looking inside the new cabins, I quickly realized I had nothing to worry about!
The cabins have been modernized with a clean, fresh look that totally works. The inside of the cabins is brighter than the old design, making it more inviting. While the new cabins have the same footprint as the old cabins, the roof of the new cabins is raised and slanted, making the new cabins feel bigger. The layout of the cabins has been changed slightly and flows much better. The cabins now have a second sink just outside the bathroom. With this new design, one person could be showering as another person gets ready for the day which is fantastic. I also fell in love with the artwork displayed. And while Cast Members said the artwork has not been finalized, I love what I’ve seen. I may have even asked if some of the artwork would be for sale because I’d love to have it at home!
