Top Reasons to Skip the Rental Car at Disney World

My family has never rented a car in any of the many, many Walt Disney World vacations we have taken. We have been on over ten vacations with flights and have never felt the need to rent a car for the vacation, and we would definitely recommend skipping it. Here are our top reasons why we think it is a great idea to skip the rental car:

5 – You really don’t need one.

It’s true! You really don’t. You have transportation covered for every aspect of your Disney World vacation, including airport transportation, so you really don’t need the rental car to get around from destination to destination on property. You even have multiple transportation options while on property to ensure that you reach your destination.

4 – Disney transportation is a lot of fun.

All Disney transportation is a blast and so much more fun than riding around in a car. You have Disney buses that play fun Disney music and hits while you travel from destination to destination. You also have boat transportation around the property. Some boats go from individual resorts to Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Disney’s Boardwalk, and Disney Springs. You can also go from these locations to several resorts if you are staying there, going for a meal, or just want to explore. My personal favorite of all the transportation options is the monorail. You can take the monorail to the Magic Kingdom or Epcot. You can also access a few of the resorts around the Magic Kingdom, too. Traveling on the Disney Skyliner is not to be missed! All of these options are a ton of fun and much more exciting than the car rides. You also get a chance to see parts of the resorts that you may not get to see otherwise.

3 – Disney is vast and can be challenging to navigate.

Walt Disney World Resort is enormous! It can be overwhelming to navigate, especially for newbies who aren’t as familiar with where everything is. Instead of spending time trying to navigate maps and using your GPS to find your way, you can let Disney do the driving. It takes the hassle and stress out of navigating, and you get to sit back and just enjoy the ride with your family and talk about all of the fantastic things that you are about to do and see.

2 – Driving to the parks isn’t typically ideal.

We have never preferred driving to the parks overtaking the available transportation. You will likely have to park far out when you drive to the parks. This means either going for a long walk to the park entrance or loading up the stroller and any other things that you are carrying onto a tram to get there after a short wait for a tram to arrive. The buses and other transportation drop you off right at the front of the park, so you eliminate that step and the time spent getting to the gates. At the end of the day, the same rules apply. You are close to all the modes of transportation while the car is out in the parking lot. Some guests will say the bus lines can last long in the evening. Well, so do the tram lines, or when you walk to your car, a bus will have arrived, and you could just be on the bus. We have always found Disney transportation to be more efficient and much easier to get around.

1 – Save the money.

The rental car becomes an unnecessary expense. You don’t have to spend that money, and the money spent on a rental car, insurance, and gas could be either saved or spent on souvenirs and other fun items to enjoy your vacation. More spending money is always a win! Especially when you save it from being spent on something you don’t really need!
