Explore 5 Amazing Gingerbread Creations at Disney World

One of our favorite family holiday traditions is taking an afternoon or two to visit different Disney World resorts and see the wonderful holiday trees and displays. Disney creativity and magic take center stage with the yearly tradition of creating amazing edible gingerbread displays! There are five gingerbread holiday creations and an extra bonus stop full of holiday magic that are waiting to be discovered. Here’s what you need to know about the delectable edible holiday creations at Disney World.





1 – A Frozen Gingerbread World, Disney’s Contemporary Resort

You’ll find a fun and unique gingerbread house at Disney’s Contemporary Resort until January 6, 2016. This 17-foot display was inspired by the designs of “it’s a small world” artist and Disney Legend, Mary Blair and of course, the ever popular animated feature, Frozen. The display features a castle with cookie figures of Anna, Elsa, Kristoff, and Sven. There is also a very cute sandcastle with a cookie figure of Olaf and a little snowman from Frozen Fever. The structure boasts 311 lbs. of honey, 514 lbs. of flour, 273 eggs, 67 lbs. of spices, 35 lbs. of sugar syrup, 222 lbs. icing, 423 lbs. of chocolate, and more than 1500 gingerbread shingles. Be on the lookout for 15 hidden Olafs on the display! While you can’t eat the house, there is a shop nearby that sells a special blue raspberry cake, Frozen gelato, plus gingerbread and sugar cookies, snowflake ornaments, linzer and chocolate-peppermint cookies. You can also purchase a build-your-own snowman kit.

2 – Ginger’s Bread and Cookie Shoppe, Disney’s Boardwalk Resort

Don’t miss a life-size replica of a Jersey Shore Boardwalk concession stand serving holiday treats. This newly updated for 2015 house was inspired by early century concession stands that dotted the boardwalks with architectural details reminiscent of seashore inns and bungalows. The color palette is taken from “Atlantic City Salt Water Taffy.” This house is made of 350 lbs. of gingerbread, 810 gingerbread shingles, 124 Mickey Mouse cookies, 11 hidden Mickeys, 48 large marshmallows, 50 lbs. modeling chocolate, 25 lbs. spices, 63 lbs. honey, 100 pints of egg whites, 150 ounces of orange liqueur, 1 gingerbread sculpture, 13 talented pastry artists, and 1 lbs. pixie dust! The Shoppe has a nice selection of holiday treats including assorted cookies, peppermint bark, caramel popcorn, brownie pops, and even gingerbread shingles! The store also has fun postcards with face cutouts for silly pictures!

3 – Holiday Carousel, Disney’s Beach Club Resort

Celebrating 16 years is the annual Holiday Carousel, a life size spinning carousel with ponies made of chocolate and fondant at Disney’s Beach Club resort! This year’s display is made of 36 lbs. of honey, 96 lbs. of bread flour, 100 pins of eggs, 10 lbs. of spices, 10 quarts of simple syrup, 150 lbs. of icing, 50 lbs. of dark chocolate, 50 lbs. of modeling chocolate, 200 gum paste flowers, lots of enthusiasm, energy and talent! There are 2015 pieces of gingerbread and 16 hidden silver Mickey’s! Don’t miss Donald Duck at the top! Sweets for sale include mini-gingerbread houses, cookies, gingerbread cupcakes with cream cheese icing and gingerbread kits in the nearby Disney’s Beach Club Marketplace.

4 – Gingerbread House, Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort

Back for its 17th year at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort is the famous house created by Chef Erich Herbitschek and the team from the Grand Floridian bakery. It takes 2 months and more than 840 hours to produce. Ingredients include 1050 lbs. of honey, 140 pints of egg whites, 600 lbs. of powdered sugar, 700 lbs. of chocolate, 800 lbs. of flour, 35 lbs. of spices, tons of creativity, Disney magic and pixie dust! The gingerbread house will be on display from now until January 1, 2016. The house has a shop that offers lollipops, gingerbread treats, cookies, chocolates, gingerbread ornaments and even gluten-free items. Also available are Disney Trading Pins including the exclusive Grand Floridian Gingerbread Pin, which this year features Minnie Mouse as Mary Poppins.

5 – Promenade at American Adventure in World Showcase, Epcot

Inside the American Adventure, you’ll find a gingerbread version of the United States Capitol Building and Washington Monument made out of 50 lbs. of gingerbread. Make sure you peek inside to the front doors to see the statue of George Washington inside the Capitol Rotunda. Outside, don’t miss the Sugar and Spice Holiday Bakery shop offering freshly baked gingerbread, sugar and chocolate cookies, peppermint bark, hot cocoa, ciders, eggnog, and more.

Bonus – Holiday Village with Trains, Disney’s Yacht Club

While not a gingerbread display, you won’t want to miss seeing a holiday village with miniature trains surrounded by sugar rock mountains. You’ll watch a miniature vintage train chug through an amazing detailed candy-coated village.
